Honouring South Africa’s Musical Legends: A Gala Evening to Remember

BMW Menlyn It's Legendary Event

The music industry has always been a platform for creative expression and a source of inspiration for people all around the world. South Africa has been blessed with some of the most iconic musicians who have contributed immensely to the country’s rich cultural heritage. To recognize and pay tribute to these legends, Bongi and Collin took the initiative to host a special gala evening at BMW Menlyn on the 8th of March themed “It’s Legendary

Unfortunately, many of these SA musical legends passed away without being properly honoured for their contributions to the country’s music industry. This is why Bongi & Collin, two talented SA musicians, decided to pay tribute to South Africa’s musical legends while they are still alive in line with the Zulu proverb “Umuntu ubongwa esaphila” meaning “a person is honoured while they’re still alive”.

Musicians that were honoured included award-winning Dr Vusi Mahlasela, Bishop Benjamin Dube, The Mahotella Queens and Dr Yvonne Chakachaka. These legends showed how they’re still oozing with talent even in their old age and mentoring younger musicians, and inspiring many with their music and talent.

The gala was attended by a select group of invited guests, including members of the music industry, government officials, media representatives, and various other artists and celebrities.

The initiative to honour South Africa’s musical legends is a noble one that deserves our support. After all, Legacy Motor Group (LMG) is all about building legacies. BMW Menlyn (operated by LMG) is honoured to have hosted this significant event. It’s important to recognise and appreciate those who have paved the way for the current generation of musicians and ensure that their contributions to the country’s music industry are not forgotten.
